Sherry Mix is an business owner over at Elements Massage in Middleton and Fitchburg. Matt asked her some questions to get to know her better — as an business owner, local business owner (almost right next door to our office!), and as our west side neighbor!
Tell us about yourself and what you do!
My name is Sherry Mix and I own Elements Massage in Fitchburg and Middleton. I am from Platteville, WI and have lived in the Madison area for 20+ years. I’ve been in Verona for the last 10 years. I’m married to Aaron and we have three kids in the Verona school district, we’re going to have three kids in three different schools next year. Crazy to think about?! Our favorite family season is coming up. We love boating and camping in the summer.
How long have you been at elements massage and what got you started?
I opened the Middleton location in 2007 and the Fitchburg location in 2014. So 17 years and 10 years this year respectively for both locations. I always say kind of right place, right time for getting started. Just one of those things that happened that I wasn’t necessarily planning for. But with absolutely no experience at the time for management or massage, I took it and ran with it. Definitely learned a lot over the years and still always trying to keep learning and growing as a business owner.
What inspired you to move to an office in Fitchburg?
There was a lot of interest in growing the Madison area for Elements beyond my Middleton location. I decided I wanted to have a second location to compliment my first location and Fitchburg was the new up and coming place to be. I knew I wanted to have it in Fitchburg and the new developing area by Target was the perfect spot.
What have you enjoyed about owning a business on the West side?
I’ve really enjoyed having my own business over the years. It was a lot of blood sweat and tears in the beginning but has really grown to be a well oiled machine these days. I really enjoy being able to give my employees a fun, safe place to work while helping so many people in the community through massage. I feel like being in Fitchburg and Middleton are really good places for a lot of different surrounding communities to not have to go far for a really good massage.
What's the most popular or interesting service you find your team doing?
Our teams are so awesome. They really are. They have so much knowledge between them. Aromatherapy and Himalayan Salt Stones are both really popular among clients. Cupping and Herbal Ritual are pretty close seconds. It’s nice to be able to offer those enhancements for clients to be able to compliment their sessions.
When you're not helping people, what can we find you doing?
When I’m not running to either studio or between kids sporting events, I love biking. I get a lot of stress relief from biking and get to escape the “real world” for a bit. It’s been really good for me to have that as an outlet when work or home is stressful.
